Dr. Dong Junshe, born in Zhouzhi County, Shaanxi Province in Dec. 1962, is now Vice-Chairman of University Council (in charge of day-to-day operations) and Vice-President of UCAS.
Dong graduated from Chang'an University in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in geology and taught at that university after graduation. He received his master's degree in geology from the same university in 1989 and a Ph.D. in geology at the China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 1994. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP), CAS. He served as the assistant to Director of IVPP and head of the Department of Science and Technology from 1996 to 1999, and as Deputy Director of IVPP from 1999 to 2006. From 2001 to 2005, he was Vice-Secretary General of Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Dong served as Deputy Party Secretary (in charge of day-to-day operations) and Deputy Director of IVPP from 2006 to 2008 and then as Party Secretary and Deputy Director of IVPP from 2008 to 2014.
