On March 27, Hon. Rathna Gamage, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources of Sri Lankan, visited the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) with representatives from the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lankan and the University of Ruhuna. LIN Xiao, Vice President of UCAS, met with the delegation at the Yanqihu Campus of UCAS to discuss topics such as joint talent cultivation in marine sciences, collaborative scientific research innovation, and the platform co-construction and sharing.
LIN Xiao welcomed the Sri Lankan delegation on behalf of UCAS and reviewed the friendly cooperation between China and Sri Lanka. He noted that in recent years, many outstanding Sri Lankan students have pursued advanced studies at UCAS. In the future, UCAS will continue to leverage its high-quality educational and scientific research resources to deepen cooperation with Sri Lanka in areas such as joint talent training, collaborative research projects, and technical exchange and sharing.
Hon. Rathna Gamage expressed his gratitude for the support from UCAS. He expressed hope to leverage the academic excellence of UCAS to strengthen marine technology exchanges, share achievements in marine science, and promote student exchanges, joint research, and academic cooperation between Sri Lankan institutions and UCAS. This collaboration aims to jointly cultivate a new generation of scientists, policymakers, and innovators to address oceanic challenges.
Prior to the meeting, the Sri Lankan delegation visited the UCAS History Museum.
Relevant officials from the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research (CAS) and UCAS departments attended the meeting.
