Call for the 2014 Summer School on Frontier and Interdisciplinary Sciences for the International PhD Students at IC-UCAS

The 2014 Summer School on Frontier and Interdisciplinary Sciences for the international PhD Students is an innovative training project co-founded by International College of UCAS (IC-UCAS), SDC (Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research) and the Office of CAS-TWAS President's Fellowship Programme at UCAS. It is purposed to inform students of the recent development of frontier and interdisciplinary sciences, exchange ideas with world-renowned scientists, and make experiment at the State Key laboratories of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

 

The establishment of International College (IC) aims to improve the university's internationalized cultivation mode, attract excellent international students and create multinational academic environment. It implements the guidelines for running UCAS in conjunction with CAS institutes: unified student recruitment, education management and degree conferment; integrated leadership, faculty, management and training system. All the courses offered at IC-UCAS are taught in English and open for all students at UCAS. With the concept of “Internationalization, Openness, Comprehensiveness and Perceptiveness”, International College will strive to become a unique and world renowned college.

 

The 2014 Summer School on Frontier and Interdisciplinary Sciences will be held at UCAS Zhongguancun Campus from June 19th to 28th, 2014. Professors from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Hong Kong University of Science &Technology, University of Houston, Technical University, Aarhus University of Denmark, and Institutes of CAS will present students the cutting-edge theories and research methods concerning Life and Environmental Sciences and Materials Science.

1. Qualification of applicants

UCAS international doctorate students including CAS-TWAS scholarship awardees, SDC students and students studying at CAS institutes.

 

2. Registration

1) Registration Time: Before June 8th, 2014.

2) Please download and fill in the Application Form of Registering the Summer School of the International College of UCAS

3) Download address: Summer School-Application form.doc

4) Email the soft copy of the application form bearing your supervisor's signature and stamp by the graduate department of your institute to chenf@ucas.ac.cn before June 8th, 2014. The title of the email should be “Your name+ Summer School Application”

5) You will be informed of the result of the application and more details on June 9th, 2014 via email. Be sure to check your email box in time.

About teachers and courses

Minor adjustments may happen due to invited professors' schedule.

About booking ticket

According to the regulations of UCAS, only round-trip train tickets between your institute and Beijing can be reimbursed, including hard seat, hard sleeper, and second-class seats of EMU (begin with D)/HSR (begin with G).Please understand that the tickets more expensive than the said types should be borne by yourself.

On the condition that you have to travel by air due to the long distance, please be aware that only the ordinary cabin (economy class) air tickets can be reimbursed, and be sure to apply for the air travel in the Application Form in advance, and indicate the estimated total cost of round-trip tickets. Without the approval of the International College, the cost is not able to be reimbursed at our side.

About reimbursement

Please keep tickets of back and forth. After you go back to your institute, you need to send round-trip train tickets to the International College by express delivery before July 10th, 2014. For plane tickets, both the official itinerary and two boarding cards are needed to be handed in. Please remember to indicate your student ID number at the back of your tickets. Without complete receipts, correct information and our receiving before the deadline, reimbursement cannot be conducted.
