About UCAS
The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is an innovative university operating and functioning under the philosophy of “Fusion of Scientific Research and Teaching”. The University student body is comprised predominantly of graduate students, while still offering elite undergraduate instruction. Under the guiding principles of “Fusion of Scientific Research and Teaching”, “Putting Student Education First”, “Cooperation and Innovation”, and “Serving the Country”, the University is highly integrated with the research institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in terms of the management, faculty, student education system, and scientific research.
UCAS boasts 3,155 full-time academic faculty and 12,880 Master’s/Doctoral supervisors in CAS institutes (including 7,537 doctoral supervisors of whom 239 are CAS academicians and 40 CAE academicians). Currently, UCAS has 1,640 undergraduate students, 57,400 graduate students (nearly 51.3% doctoral students), and 1,808 international students (1,144 doctoral students). The University is ranked among the top universities in terms of the number of international doctoral students.
UCAS provides first-class research conditions for students to conduct scientific research, with 23 large-scale national scientific facilities, 2 national research centers, 73 national key labs, 191 CAS key labs, 8 national engineering research centers, 17 national engineering technology research centers, 14 national engineering labs, and many state-level frontier scientific research projects.
UCAS confers doctoral degrees to students in 46 first-tier academic disciplines and one professional doctoral degree (Materials Science & Chemical Engineering) Master’s degrees in 57 first-tier disciplines, professional Master’s degrees in 16 disciplines, and Bachelor’s degrees in 15 majors. Additionally, UCAS has 99 postdoctoral research stations. While maintaining its strengths in the natural sciences, UCAS promotes the development of applied disciplines, cross-disciplines, the Humanities, and social sciences.
According to Nature Index 2021 Young Universities, among the world’s leading 50 young universities (aged 50 and under) ranked by each university’s published article count of the year 2020, 23 were Chinese universities. Five Chinese universities were ranked among the top 10. UCAS was ranked first for two consecutive years. In ESI Ranking of Chinese Mainland Universities, UCAS has been ranked at the top numerous times. According to the latest data, UCAS figured in the top 1/10000 in the disciplines of Materials Science and Chemistry, and 1/1000 in eight disciplines, including Materials Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Ecology.
Distinguished Professor
A. Candidacy Requirements
Aged 55 or under; competence to lead research to reach, or maintain, internationally advanced levels in the frontier areas of his/her discipline; engaged in original research and key technology research in related fields, with important symbolic achievements; having made irreplaceable contributions to serving national strategies and economic and social development.
B. Remuneration and Benefits
※ Annual salary: an annual salary of not less than RMB 800,000 with a year-end performance bonus.
※ Research start-up funds: not less than RMB 4 million for natural sciences and not less than RMB 1.5 million for humanities and social sciences. A case-by-case approval process may be administered under special circumstances.
※ Housing benefits: rental of a UCAS-based turnover housing unit or "talent apartment"; turnover housing subsidy or rental subsidy provided.
※ One-off living allowance: a one-off living allowance of not more than RMB 3 million.
※ Other benefits: guaranteed enrollment of graduate students; school enrollment support for the successful candidate’s child(ren); reimbursement of expenses to travel to China, etc.
Tenured Professor
A. Candidacy Requirements
Aged 50 or under; active presence at the forefront of teaching and scientific research, with academic achievements recognized by international peers in the frontiers of his/her research fields; international reputation and influence commensurate with the position; excellent records and accomplishments in teaching and graduate student education; having made significant contributions to the development of his/her discipline; qualified as a tenure-track professor in a world-class university.
B. Remuneration and Benefits
※ Annual salary: an annual salary of not less than RMB 700,000 with a year-end performance bonus.
※ Research start-up funds: not less than RMB 3 million for natural sciences and not less than RMB 1 million for humanities and social sciences. A case-by-case approval process may be administered under special circumstances.
※ Housing benefits: rental of a UCAS-based turnover housing unit or "talent apartment"; turnover housing subsidy or rental subsidy provided.
※ One-off living allowance: a living allowance of not more than RMB 3 million may be applied for.
※ Other benefits: guaranteed enrollment of graduate students; school enrollment support for the successful candidate’s child(ren); reimbursement of expenses to travel to China, etc.
Tenured Associate Professor
A. Candidacy Requirements
Aged 45 or under; competence to educate graduate students as their supervisor; an excellent record of original and important research achievements; international reputation and influence commensurate with the position in his/her research field; qualified as a tenure-track associate professor in a world-class university.
B. Remuneration and Benefits
※ Annual salary: an annual salary of not less than RMB 600,000 with a year-end performance bonus.
※ Research start-up funds: not less than RMB 2 million for natural sciences and not less than RMB 700,000 for humanities and social sciences. A case-by-case approval process may be administered under special circumstances.
※ Housing benefits: rental of a UCAS-based turnover housing unit or "talent apartment"; turnover housing subsidy or rental subsidy provided.
※ One-off living allowance: granted on a case-by-case basis.
※ Other benefits: guaranteed enrollment of graduate students; school enrollment support for the successful candidate’s child(ren); reimbursement of expenses to travel to China, etc.
Tenure-track Assistant Professor/Tenure-track Associate Professor
A. Candidacy Requirements
Aged 40 or under (in principle); a Ph.D. degree, with outstanding achievements in his/her research field and great potential.
※ Overseas candidates: at least three consecutive years of research experience working abroad; the overseas work experience requirement may be reasonably relaxed for candidates having obtained a Ph.D. degree from leading universities and with outstanding academic achievements.
※ Domestic candidates: experience working at a postdoctoral/CAS research assistant position, or research experience for at least three consecutive years, or work experience at a position of or equivalent to that of an associate professor; the domestic work experience requirement may be reasonably relaxed for extremely outstanding candidates (for example, winners of Boxin Project).

Special Research Assistant
A. Candidacy Requirements
※ Having made original research findings, with academic paper(s) published in first-class journals in his/her research field as first author or corresponding author; exceptional potential for scientific and technological innovation.
※Applicants for postdoctoral stations shall be 35 or under in age. They will be required to transfer their organizational affiliation status to the establishment which the postdoctoral station is affiliated to, and participate in full-time postdoctoral research.
B. Remuneration and Benefits
※ Annual salary: an annual salary of not less than RMB 250,000, with a monthly rental subsidy of RMB 6,000.
※ Personal subsidies: contributions to China’s five major social insurance programs and housing provident fund.
※ Outstanding researchers can apply for CAS Research Assistant Project. Successful candidates of the project will enjoy an annual basic salary of not less than RMB 400,000, with a monthly rental subsidy of RMB 6,000.
UCAS will support qualified candidates of tenure-track positions in applying for national or CAS-level talents project with corresponding remuneration and benefits.
